Kokernag

Sinthan Top

Sinthan Top is one such destination at a distance of around 48 km from Kokernag and located at a height of 3748 meters, Sinthan-top is the highest pass connecting the Valley of Kashmir with Jammu Division via Kishtwar District. Around 38 kilometres of snaky and uphill drive from Daksum, it’s an adventurous journey. And round the year snow at the top makes it a varied choice for all tourists. The journey to this place is thrilling and so is sliding down the snow-capped peaks. Apart from the normal tourism activity, Sinthan top has a great potential for adventure tourism. With a 360 degree view on its top, the spot is best suited for mountaineering and skiing with the height at which it is located and the kind of mountain ranges it has.

Daksum

Daksum is quite scintillating. From the tree-covered hills, you will suddenly find yourself in grassy meadows and streams. The fresh mountain air, the calm and serenity, the densely clad hills, all make the trip to a memorable experience. Then, there are the snow-capped mountains in the background that further enhance the beauty of this place.

Achabal

Achabal (Mughal Garden) is famous for its beautiful spring which gushes out of the Sosanwar hill, and was once enlisted by the emperor Jahangir in the service of beauty and pleasure.

Verinag

Verinag is Famous for its beautiful spring which was built by emperor Jahangir in 1620. The spring has 80 meters circumference and is in octagonal shape.

Sun Temple

The Temple has been built with strong and square limestones and exhibits and the pillars of Greek pattern .Sun temple (Martand Temple) is said to be a mirror of the art and skill of Kashmiri Hindus.

Chattapal

Chattapal is situated at a distance of 40 km from Anantnag town in Shangus tehsil. This place has a past history as most of the foreign trekkers all over the globe were putting their base camps here for various trekking spots like Thimran and Warwan valley up to Kistwar. The dense forests and fresh water nallah (originating from Kaginag spring) add to the already beautiful Chattapal. Chattapal has an immense potential of daily and adventure tourism including trekking and fishing. From Achabal to Chattapal one can visit temple of Umma Devi situated in Brari-Angan village. Also a recently discovered ancient site at Chaklipora also comes on the way to Chattapal.

Sonamarg

Sonamarg is located at a hefty altitude of 2,740 m above sea level, literally means 'Meadow of Gold'. Sonamarg, a town surrounded by breathtaking glaciers and serene lakes is a snow covered beautiful. Sonamarg in the Kashmir valley is the gateway to Ladakh and situated just before the Zoji La pass.

Manasbal

Amongst the various lakes in Kashmir, Manasbal is the deepest. In ancient Hindu legends the lake is represented as unfathomable, and it is related that a holy man (reshi) spent several years in making a line long enough to reach the bottom of the lake, but despairing of success he threw himself in the lake never to rise again. According to Sir Auriel Stein the lake was formerly known as Manasa or as Manasaras. This ancient name is derived from the sacred hindu lake on the mythical Mount Kailash, usually located in the Mansarovar of the Tibetian highlands.

Aharbal:

Aharbal is known for its water fall, Aharbal Falls, where the Veshu falls noisily 25 metres and 7 metres through a narrow gorge of granite boulders. Aharbal Falls are also referred to as the Niagara Falls of Kashmir, owing to the volume of the water that falls. The terraces leading to the falls are fenced, but care must be taken to avoid slipping. Aharbal is a base for adventure tourism. The Veshu River is stocked with trout. The fishing permit can be obtained from the Fisheries department stationed at Aharbal. The alpine meadow of Kungwatan lies at the halfway point of the two-day trek to the high-altitude Konsernag Lake, which is the source of the Veshu. Other activities include horse riding, photography, and skiing during winter.
